Victoria Palace Theatre Refurbishment

Victoria Palace

With Billy’s ballet shoes safely packed away it’s time to get the builders in at Delfont Mackintosh’s Victoria Palace Theatre.

The current theatre is well over 100 years old and although it has adequately housed Billy Elliot for the last 11 years, it’s limited stage size and current design make it difficult to house larger, more technical shows.

The recently approved planning consent will see many changes, including:

  • A new eight storey fly tower built

  • demolition of some rear previous extensions

  • Excavation of a new stage pit

  • Various extensions and alterations to the east side of the building

  • New seating

  • Widening of the proscenium arch

The work is expected to see the theatre dark for over a year. It is hoped that an advertising wrap will be used around the required scaffolding to promote shows across the capital.

Full details of all planning applications related to the works are available on the Westminster City Council planning portal https://www.westminster.gov.uk/search-planning-applications-and-decisions.
