Sorry I Killed Your Cat – 4*

Sorry I Killed Your Cat

Courtyard Theatre

Opening Night –Β 21 February 2017

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“With a little polish, this has the makings of a five-star show”

Sorry I Killed Your Cat is one of those really pleasant surprises, a play that bills itself as ‘full of laughs’ and actually is.Β TrΓ© Curran’s script is genuinely funny and clever, reminiscent of a classic farce but with a nifty modern day twist.

When Charlotte and James (Katherine Hartshorne and and TrΓ© Curran) invite neighbours Lisa and Aaron (Annie Jones and Liam Harvey) for dinner, events become more and more ridiculous. Fuelled by copious amounts of alcohol, rivalries start to come out along with some hilarious misunderstandings … and eventually the truth about what really did happen to the cat!

There are plenty of gags throughout, both verbal and visual, which on the whole hit the mark. At times a little more pace and slicker interaction between the characters was needed, but this is something easily corrected as the show (hopefully) develops.

There wereΒ also a fewΒ times when delivery was a little stilted (first night nerves?) by someΒ of the cast but this improved considerably as the show went on.

A nice little set (Karis Richards) and effective lighting (Liam Hynes) added to this being a remarkably good piece of theatre. It does go to show that you don’t need a massive budget or venue to put on something spectacular.

With a little bit of polish, this has the makings of a five star show deserving a much longer run. Catch it while you can.
