ABOUT US
We launched thespyinthestalls.com in the summer of 2015 when it was just our editor covering a handful of shows. It wasn’t until early 2017 that we took on additional reviewers and increased our show coverage considerably.
Prior to the pandemic, we covered an average of fifty shows per month and although that number is now lower, we have recently posted our three thousandth review, a figure we are immensely proud of. Review 3000 came only a few weeks before our tenth birthday, so a double celebration.
Our reviewers mostly have some background in the arts so are in the perfect position to provide detailed and fair reviews. There seems to be a trend elsewhere of rating nearly every show five stars, but this is unhelpful both to potential paying customers and the show itself, so very few shows (around 18%) do get that coveted rating from us. It can be disheartening to everyone involved in a show when it doesn’t quite hit the mark, hence we don’t promote any reviews on social media where the show received fewer than three stars, though these reviews are available on our website.
We cover shows of all genres in a variety of venues from small pop-up spaces to main West End houses.
We mainly cover the London and the Home Counties but occasionally cover shows elsewhere in the UK. In 2023 we stopped running most features and interviews and our focus is now solely on reviews.
To give our readers the best experience:
– Paid-for advertising does not feature on our sites
– We do not operate mailing lists
– Tickets are not sold from our site
None of our content is paid for, or promoted for gain on behalf of any other party. Reviews and articles are written by a team of volunteers and opinions expressed are those of the individual author.
We are provided with press tickets for the majority of shows we review.
