“The acts are fast paced and immensely varied – funny, daring, naughty and breathtaking”
The Aldwych Theatre plays host to the contemporary circus and cabaret show that is La Soirée. The performers are excited that they have “gone posh” with their new venue which will be their home for the next 11 weeks.
The show has mostly unreserved seating with some so close to the main stage that unsuspecting occupants are ripe to be plucked from the comfort of their seat and become part of the show. The overhang from the dress circle gives some of the stalls seats a very restricted view and some of the show is just not visible from the back rows. There is reserved seating with tables on stage that gives the feel of an intimate bar hosting a live show.
The acts are fast paced and immensely varied – funny, daring, naughty and breathtaking. Throughout the show my emotions swung from being mouth opened in amazement to hiding my eyes behind my hands due to either the perilous stunts of the acrobats or the cringe worthy moments of some of the comedy acts. The acts were short but their performances packed a punch.
The gymnasts and acrobats were amazing. The Chilly Brothers, Lea Hinz, Mallakhamb India, LJ Marles and Leon and Klodi wowed the audience with their daredevil acts showing supreme dexterity and suppleness. Their strength was phenomenal. Michele Clark’s hula hoop act was magical with her tricks seeming to defy gravity at times.
Daredevil Chicken have a unique brand of comedy which some may find a little bit too raucous. If you are sitting in the front rows be careful of low flying bananas! Comedy from the legend of the cabaret scene Amy G may not be to everyone’s taste but certainly had the audience belly laughing and holding their sides.
Due to some of the content, including some nudity, this show is definitely for adults only and for those that are not easily shocked. A great night out though featuring a cornucopia of talent – you certainly leave feeling you have been entertained!
