“A must see show that is something quite extraordinarily unique”
Returning to The Vaults (and there’s no other venue in London better suited) for aΒ five month run is the totally unique Alice’s Adventures Underground. Based around the much loved characters created by Lewis Carroll, this theatrical experience takes ‘immersive’ to a whole new (underground) level.
With a reworked and extended script, new characters, new scenes and more audience involvement, the show knock’s its previous incarnation into a cocked (Mad Hatter’s) hat.Β
It’s difficult to write too much without giving away too many spoilers, but put it this way – you are in for one hugely magical evening. You’ll be guided through multiple rooms, meet some enchanting characters, experience falling down the rabbit hole and even appear to travel in a most curious lift.
With its clever audience focused design, should you go and see the show again (and you should!), it’s virtually guaranteed that you’ll have a slightly different adventure everyΒ time. A lot depends on what you choose to eat, or drink and how the cards are dealt . . . !
The show has a cast and creative team that exceeds that of even the biggest West End productionsΒ yet this always feels like an intimate show due to the unique way it is performed. The audience are trulyΒ made to feel part of the show by an amazingly talented team of actors, acrobats and puppeteers who bring the magic alive (helped by anΒ unseen army of technical and backstage crew).
Get there early and enjoy the ambience of a Wonderland themed Vaults. There’s food, bars with themed cocktails, and helpful friendly staff (something sadly missing in some venues).Β
It’s one of those must see shows that is something quite extraordinarily unique. Be quick though as this is sure to be this summer’s hot ticket and sell out fast.
The Olivier nominated smash hit βALICEβS ADVENTURES UNDERGROUNDβ returns to The Vaults from 15 April to 23 September 2017. Tickets are available to under 26βs for just Β£25 each for the 5.45pm performance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 25 April 2017.
βALICEβS ADVENTURES UNDERGROUNDβ was originally conceived as a celebration of the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carrollβs classic novel of the same name. This unmissable show had over 100,000 visitors in 2015, culminating in a 2016 Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment and Family Show.
With even more twists and turns for 2017, βALICEβS ADVENTURES UNDERGROUNDβ invites you deep into The Vaults, hidden beneath Waterloo station, to lose yourself in a land far removed from our own.
Writer and Director Oliver Lansley said: βIt’s very rare you get the opportunity to revisit a piece like this. Alice 2.0 is bigger, bolder and even more ambitious. New characters, effects, huge new set pieces, and exciting new layers added to the script. You really will be at the heart of the adventure, and this year if youβre under 26 its just Β£25 each! Whilst such an offer is unusual outside the subsidised sector we felt it was important because under 26s were such a large part of the showβs success last time.β
Tumble down the rabbit hole and experience immersion like never before in this interactive, puppetry-packed, fusion of storytelling, music, circus and spectacleβ¦but this isnβt Alice’s adventure, it’s yours…
Make a series of choices; Eat or drink? Grow or Shrink? And find yourself at the centre of the story as you wander through Wonderland, piecing together the puzzle as to what has happened to Alice who is lost in the looking glass. Be careful as yourΒ choice leads you down a completely different path into Wonderland; you might grow to enormous proportions and become one of Wonderland’s elite rubbing shoulders with the highest of playing card suits; or you might shrink to be so small that even border control can’t detect you; take tea at the biggest un-birthday party with the maddest of Hatters; let the Cheshire Cat take you hither or thither or you could even find yourself playing a key part in an underground resistance movement to rise against the fearsome Queen.
βALICEβS ADVENTURES UNDERGROUNDβ is written by Oliver Lansley and Anthony Spargo and directed by Oliver Lansley and James Seager; and produced by Les Enfants Terribles and ebp in association with Creature of London.Β Les Enfants Terribles and ebp have recently be nominated for an Innovation Award in The Stage Awards 2017 and also featured on The Stage 100 Theatre Power List.
